What is Multani Mitti (Fuller’s Earth)?

Multani Mitti is what’s known in Ayurveda as a ‘Mrittika’, or a medicinal earth. Traditionally applied as a paste, or from within a face mask, it's recognized for its capacity to purify, clarify, and draw out impurities, sweat and excess sebum from skin

Its defining Ayurvedic property is its ‘Sheeta Virya,’ a cooling potency that makes it particularly suited to skin presenting signs of Pitta aggravation: congestion, heat, and heaviness at the surface.

What Does Multani Mitti Do for Skin?

In Ayurveda, it is one of the most valued purifying ingredients for Pitta and Kapha skin types.

As a mild abrasive, it physically sloughs off dead skin cells when rinsed. Because of its powerful oil-stripping nature, it is recommended to be used infrequently (e.g., once a week to once a month) to avoid increasing dryness or disrupting the skin's pH.
